Coremetrics Web Analytics

To really understand my viewpoint of how excited I am with analytics and integrating campaigns, the Coremetrics whitepaper (PDf) about their web analytics really started off amazingly. And just for the record, I’m rarely affected by various kinds of advertisements.

Here I was saying: “Yes! Exactly, you cannot get all that information properly in one area.”

Yet, I was expecting a great push towards the end of what it really meant–truly tracking an Integrated Campaign, where:

  • SEO Conversion Rate: 2.5%
  • PPC Conversion Rate: 3.4%
  • EDM Conversion Rate: 1.5%
  • Integrated (SEO, then PPC, then EDM) Rate 1: 0.5%
  • Integrated (PPC, then SEO) Rate 2: 1.3%

But, sadly, Coremetrics really missed that great point–it beat around the bush in terms of truly analyzing a fully integrated campaign and instead ‘coyly’ noted the relationships and the information of the customer.

I know it’s a white paper, but man… I have to say that the white paper could definitely be beefed up to really tailor Coremetrics in an ability to truly compile the data and analyze a fully integrated campaign–now that in my opinion would put themselves far above the pack in a very public way as a web analytics company.

Then again, I have yet to fully try their product, so their whitepaper could conceivably be far off from what they actually can do.

  • Thought this was worth a note to people:

The Jewish Americans is a three-night documentary that explores 350 years of Jewish American history. Written and directed by award-winning filmmaker David Grubin, The Jewish Americans is a story of great achievement despite great odds. From the First Settlement in the 17th century to the present, the six-hour series is a journey in time.

  • Demerzel’s SEO Prediction

My SEO prediction on Google is now up as a guest post over at Google Search Sucks, generously posted by Mr. Google Sucks himself about the following topic:

[I]f you’re looking to understand why Google will ultimately fail as a search engine in trying to keep a large emphasis on link juice, then read on.

Just had to comment about it to point it out as I could not help but notice a few predictions by Alan at SEO Image on his 2008 SEO Predictions:

    4. SEO
Search Engine Optimization will be a web industry standard. More and more inexperienced SEO people will become prominent figures in the industry and still think they know what it is they are doing, despite never handling a single site. - Go Figure.

    [...]

    9. Social Media Sites
Social sites and forums will gain a larger percentage of searches and cause other older communities to fear them or buy them.

    10. Link Baiting
Controversial posts and editorials will be part of SEO campaigns for link bait (Not like this one).

Those are his good ones in my opinion as otherwise the rest are complete junk (or are not really predictions–SEO conspiracies!?) without some solid reasonings behind them.

  • Kiva.org: Loans That Change Lives

A colleague of mine at work recommended this site and I thought to pass it on as it looks like a really great idea in my opinion, so to quote my colleague:

It allows you to browse the profiles of applicants for micro loans around the world, and then put your money where you see fit, in increments as small as $25. Once the loan is paid back, you are free to withdraw your money or reinvest. You’re not earning interest, but the interest goes to fund the field partners who seek out the loan applicants and do the due diligence to ensure you’re investing in worthwhile individuals. This is not like those old programs where you say, gave a sheep to some farmer in who-knows-where, and then never saw any end result after you sent your money off. It’s not a gift, just a much needed loan. After all, you know what they say: Give a man a fish, and he’ll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he’ll eat forever.

  • Ever since Google got popular, I began to personally dislike how Google indexes pages mainly due to the fact that Google is unable or unwilling to properly discern the reasons behind why someone may search on my name. In other words: If I, or anyone else, searches for my name, the first thing that should show up is the homepage of my website (this of course excludes celebrities and as much as I may want to think I am one, I certainly am not). However, a search for my name in actuality shows this on Google:

This, sadly, is an improvement from years ago when another site would rank above mine. Two potentially main reasons as to why: My main site does not include my name and that the old MC99 page probably has some links helping it to rank well. Sadly, I think after this post gets indexed, it will likely rank in position 1.

Let’s compare to how MSN and Yahoo do their indexing while we’re at it:

    Done properly, now Yahoo:

What impresses me sometimes about Yahoo is that the results make common sense: What do people searching about someone want to know? Do they have a website? Check. Can I quickly contact them via social networking sites? Check.

So what search engine do I use? Google. Part of the reason entails the annoyance of some many things on Yahoo’s homepage, part of it is really that although Yahoo does show results with some common sense, Google is still far better than anything else out there with breadth, depth, and relevance of information for terms that everyone else is looking for.
