Beijing Air Pollution: Epic Fail?

Looks like Beijing is going to have to try a lot harder with less than a month left:

4/7 days Beijing failed to meet its air pollution standards for the Beijing Olympics which were generous. Only 1/7 days made it if Beijing was not given some slack.

How bad is it? Take a look at what Beijing Olympic Games 2008 has:

Hazy Skies
That said, there is some hope–if the Chinese government can work overtime to get the pollution down (no cars, stopping all construction, shutting down power plants in Hubei), then it really would look as nice as this:

That is one helluva difference.

  • Beyond looking forward to any kind of Star Trek game, I have been waiting for about one to two years now for EA’s Spore game to come out. Turns out that the game will be out finally this year in Spring 2008 (exact date to be given at the end of January). My hope is that this will be a cutesy/fun game that my wife and I can both get involved in (similar to The Sims) without it being too complicated.

The game itself will begin all the way down from the cellular level all the way into the galactic level, providing various styles of play throughout the whole game. Below are some amazing pictures of what is in and what can be done with the game:

Admittedly, the graphics definitely are not up there (which may be a benefit to my laptop), but then again, it should mesh perfectly well with the Wii crowd.

  • Google has surprisingly updated its PageRank early this year in 2008 breaking the every three month update it usually does. The last PR update was well known for penalizing a lot of sites that were selling paid links and a possible reason for the recent update may be as a way to allow sites that were recently hit to bounce back after removing their paid links.

Nonetheless, this is a surprising update and will be followed across the SEO world to see what is going on and more will be talked about here as I find out more.

  • Ron Paul could not win in New Hampshire with independents in the Republican Party in the most libertarian state of the nation, and therefore in my opinion I am calling it now for the end of Ron Paul’s candidacy. Sure, he can pull a Howard Dean and get some great/cushy position after the fact, but as of trying to win the Presidency, if the libertarian guy cannot do well in a libertarian state, then explain how he can do well anywhere else?

Essentially it’s like Guiliani not winning the race in New York–if he cannot win in the state where he should be the most popular–then he certainly is not going to do any better elsewhere.

Hate mail be damned, Ron Paul is effectively finished in his run for the Presidency.

  • Great information by Andrew Sullivan:

Tonight was in many ways devastating news for the GOP. Twice as many people turned out for the Democrats than the Republicans. Clearly independents prefer the Dems.

Now look at how the caucus-goers defined themselves in the entrance polls. Among the Dems: Very Liberal: 18 percent; Somewhat Liberal: 36 percent; Moderate: 40 percent; Conservative: 6 percent. Now check out the Republicans: Very Conservative: 45 percent; Somewhat Conservative: 43 percent; Moderate: 11 percent; Liberal: 1 percent.

One is a national party; the other is on its way to being an ideological church. The damage Bush and Rove have done - revealed in 2006 - is now inescapable.
